Paragraphs are the foundational organizational unit of writing. Paragraphs begin the process of tying individual complete thoughts together to explain a more complex thought. The paragraph structure consists of three main parts:
Topic Sentence: provides main idea for the paragraph, includes an opinion and should be interesting (1 sentence)
Supporting Sentences: support the opinion states in the Topic Sentence through details and examples (3-5 sentences)
Concluding Sentence: summarizes opinion and supporting sentences, can include a look to the future, but should always give an “end” to the paragraph (1 sentence)
By following this paragraph structure, each paragraph will have a unique topic that is well supported.
